The mythical animal with the name “Grypas” has been established as a symbol of the city of Heraklion. Grypas depicted in the frescoes of Knossos, was a mythical monster with the body of a lion, the head and wings of an eagle and the tail of a snake. We met Grypas on the morning of Thursday, February 25, 2021 in the center of Heraklion. It was located between Loggia and the Lions Square.
“The reason?”
Grypas will stay with us until Clean Monday, as it is part of the Carnival decoration of the city.
The materials and the decorations that had been used during the Carnival celebrations of the previous years, came out of the warehouses of the Municipality of Heraklion and began to be decorated in the center of Heraklion city.
