It is probably not well known, but Crete is an island on which a jeep safari is still possible. However, you have to know where to find the good spots and roads. The group will have a maximum of 15 persons. We will explore the rugged mountain area of Crete in powerful 4wheeldrive jeeps, from the middle to the east, over the mountain range of the island
Every group will be guided a tour leader, a Crete connoisseur from head to toe.
This tour brings you really back to the nature. 2 out of 4 nights we will sleep on a deserted beach, under the many stars. You don't need any electrical apparatus, because we won't have any electricity. Your equipment will consist of a sleeping bag, an air-mattress, a metal mug, a plastic plate a knife and of course one jeep per 2 persons.
This expedition is the ideal way to explore the not discovered Crete. The safari is not dangerous and certainly not a survival expedition.
A healthy attitude and a good sense of humor are the best ingredients in order to make a huge success of this safari.
Day 1
We will meet in the hotel in Heraklion. After the distribution of the jeeps, we set out in a southern direction. We will do our shopping in Agia Varvara for our lunch on the way. Then we go eastwards to Ano Vianos, where we will spend the night in a small local hotel. In the evening we will have dinner together.
Day 2
After breakfast and foraging, we will drive via different secret paths, over the Lasithi Mountains, in order to arrive at the end of the day, dusty and tired, at our hotel in Ierapetra.
The rest of the evening is at your own disposal.
Day 3
After breakfast and foraging we will continue going east via the Stavromenos Mountains to Orino for lunch. Then we will go further to the far east of Crete: Xerokambos. We will spend the night on the beach, after having enjoyed our dinner in the only beach tavern, which knows how to give our guests what they need at the end of this tiring day.
Day 4
Full of energy, after a healthy night's rest, we will do our shopping for breakfast and lunch and we will explore the environment. The evening we will also spend on the beach, enjoying a barbecue prepared by ourselves. Here we will also get into our sleeping bags and watch the stars until we fall asleep. For those who prefer sleeping these 2 days in a room, we will do our best to organize this.
Day 5
After our self prepared breakfast and a refreshing dip in the sea, we will go via high mountains in the direction of Handras and Sitia, in order to return to the hotel in Heraklion, via the northern road along the sea. Our mutual bye-bye lunch, we will prepare ourselves at the foot of the Lasithi mountains near Kastelli. An ideal place to say goodbye to each other and maybe take a precious piece of friendship back home!
